The Mayor of London is meeting people living and and working in Merton tonight.
It's the first of a series of community receptions Boris Johnson plans to attend throughout the year.
Representatives from local businesses, public bodies, voluntary organisations and faith groups, as well as cultural organisations, schools, and many other community groups are said to be present.
Minority ethnic communities, LGBT communities and disabled Londoners will also be amongst those represented at the event.
The Mayor said: "One of the biggest successes of 2012 was how Londoners came together and presented a positive and welcoming face to the world."
"We want to build on that momentum, by strengthening our communities at a local level."
"Everyone has a part to play in the success of our city, socially and economically."
"Our community receptions are an opportunity to have an ongoing dialogue about what we all can collectively and as individuals to ensure our city is prepared for future prosperity as well as challenges ahead."
