The elderly and those with a disability in Wimbledon are beeing offered the chance to do their Christmas shopping with a little bit of help this month.

Volunteers will provide free transport and be on hand to help shoppers at Centre Court on November 20, from 10.30am to 1pm.

The day is being organised by Merton Council, in partnership with Volunteer Centre Merton and Centre Court shopping centre.

There's also a chance to meet the Mayor Gilli Lewis-Lavender and enjoy a chat and a free tea or coffee and mince pies.

Young people from Ursuline and Ricards Lodge High Schools will be pushing wheelchairs, carrying bags and offering a friendly face throughout the day, supervised by their teachers and staff from Volunteer Centre Merton.

Younger pupils from Joseph Hood Primary School will be entertaining shoppers with their Christmas carols.

Following the success of last year's event where more than 50 people took part, residents can call and book their place on the bus for all the fun and none of the fuss of Christmas shopping.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor Gilli Lewis-Lavender said: "I am looking forward to getting into the Christmas spirit with all the shoppers in Wimbledon. I urge anyone interested to book their place today and take advantage of this fun day out."

For more information and to book a place on this day please call 020 8545 4782.
