Green fingered community groups, residents and businesses have come together this week to celebrate Merton in Bloom 2012.

An awards ceremony was held on Wednesday in the Civic Centre, Morden.

Gardeners and allotmenteers, were recognised and rewarded with trophies and certificates from the Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Williams.

Based upon horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation, the categories were judged by members of local allotment and horticultural societies.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Williams, said: "It's lovely to meet so many people who are passionate about gardening. The Merton in Bloom awards are a great way to acknowledge the effort that our local people put into their gardens and green spaces."

Cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, Councillor Andrew Judge, said: "Merton in Bloom impresses me every year. It's great to see so many local businesses and community groups taking part alongside residents. Congratulations to all our winners, and everyone who took part."
