A two-acre Wimbledon estate previously owned by King Henry VIII has been put on sale for £26million, making it the most expensive property in Merton.

The Old Rectory is also the oldest house in Wimbledon, having been built in the early 1500s.

Estate agents Knight Frank have dubbed the estate the 'best kept secret in Wimbledon'.

The Grade II-listed building, on Church Road, has been refurbished to bring it in line with contemporary building standards, and there is also planning consent for a swimming pool.

The gardens were originally created by the designer responsible for Hampton Court Palace, and overlook the the All England Tennis club.
