Merton Council has received the Mayor of London's initial response to expansion proposals for Dundonald Primary School in Wimbledon.

The initial response from the Mayor of London's office has laid out three changes to ensure the proposals fully comply with the London Plan.

These changes are:

- Agreed hours of community use of the Multi Use Games Area during school hours

- Installation of measures to ensure excess rainfall is drained effectively including rain water harvesting

- Increase in the number of cycle parking spaces

The revised proposals will go to the Planning Application Committee in the first half of 2013 for consideration before returning to the mayor for the final decision.

Merton Council cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton said: "We are pleased that the Mayor's office is agreeing to the proposals in general at this stage, and we welcome the constructive comments."

"The proposed Dundonald expansion is part of our major school expansion programme which will enable us to accommodate the increase in demand for school places within the borough."
