Merton Liberal Democrats have called a Conservative calling to slash council tax "cynical."
Last week Merton Conservatives revealed they're to vote on a 5% cut in the next few days.
The Leader of Merton Conservative Group, Councillor Debbie Shears, said: "Merton Council Tax is already double that of neighbouring Wandsworth yet while hard pressed householders are struggling our Labour run Council has built up more than £20million in the last 2 years alone."
However, Lib Dem councillor Iain Dysart said: "The Conservative suggestion that Council tax could be cut by 5% is hugely cynical. When they ran Merton between 2006-10 they increased Council tax in the first 3 years, only to implement a tiny cut to Council tax in the year before the election."
The idea is to be voted upon on the 21st November
