Met police officer arrested in Wimbledon

A Met police officer, living in Wimbledon has been arrested as part of Operation Elveden.

Operation Elveden is the MPS inquiry into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials.

It is being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission and is running in conjunction with Operation Weeting, the MPS phone-hacking inquiry.

The man in his fifties, was arrested yesterday morning at his home in the Wimbledon area on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, contrary to Common Law.

He is a Metropolitan Police officer in the Territorial Policing command based on a south London borough.

He was interviewed at a south London police station and was later bailed to a date in May.

His home was also searched.

The arrest was the result of information provided to police by News Corporation's Management and Standards Committee.

It relates to suspected payments to a police officer and is not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately.
