Action in Merton (AIM) launches for 2011 next week as the council and its team of partners take to the streets for another series of localised events to make Merton a cleaner, greener and safer borough for all.

Come along to an AIM event and see what's being done to improve life in the area
Kicking off in South Lodge Avenue, Pollards Hill on Friday 20 May, the AIM teams will be hosting a series of one-day events across the borough to tackle environmental, crime, anti-social behaviour, fire and other safety issues.
AIM is an initiative to make Merton a safer, cleaner and healthier place for all. As part of each AIM event, the AIM team will be arranging for the council's street cleansing team to carry out a deep clean within the area and remove any graffiti. Community Pay Back (adult offenders) will also be carrying out a project at each AIM event whether re-painting areas or clearing over grown plants and shrubs
Residents who come along and take part in the day can benefit from a wealth of expertise and advice available on home and personal safety, crime prevention and information on services offer by the Safer Merton partnership.
A first for this year, free dog chipping will also be available at each event and residents will be able to sign up for the new Dog Watch scheme too.
Colleagues at the police will also be conducting automatic number plate recognition exercises around some of the AIM days too - checking on stolen, uninsured vehicles, disqualified drivers, waste carrier licenses, and cowboy builders.
Councillor Edith Macauley, Merton Council cabinet member for community safety, cohesion and equalities said:
"Merton is one of the safest borough's in London, but we know that it is sometimes the smaller environmental or anti-social behaviour issues which are of the most concern to our residents.
"Action in Merton is a fantastic initiative which can tackle these concerns and bring immediate benefits to the communities that we visit. I would encourage everyone who lives locally to Pollards Hill and the other areas we will be visiting over the summer to come along, get involved and take advantage of the services and advice on offer."
