A Chinese and Thai takeaway in Wimbledon Park was shut by environmental health officers, after residents complained about the food.

The online takeaway Bamboo Baboom, based in a warehouse unit in Weir Road, in Wimbledon, was found to have rotting food, evidence of cross contamination between raw and cooked food, and a significant mouse problem that was not receiving any pest control treatment, said environmental officers to local Conservative Councillor Tariq Lord Ahmad.

They also found members of staff were not properly trained in food hygiene and there was an absence of any food management system. The premises were closed on the spot after the inspection on January 17, by means of a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice. Following a further visit on January 23, officers allowed the warehouse to be re-opened. However, the council will now assess the need for further action which may include criminal proceedings.

Cllr Ahmad and fellow Conservative councillors in Wimbledon Park have welcomed action by Merton Council following complaints about the food being delivered.

"We would like to thank all those people who have been in touch to complain about the poor quality of the food that was being provided from the premises," said Cllr Ahmad.

"Their diligence has stopped other residents from eating food that was prepared in these poor conditions. We would also like to thank Merton Council for acting so swiftly on this information from the public."
