Customers at Sainsbury's Putney ( Werter road) stores help to donate food to Momentum
An innovative food donation drive at Sainsbury's Putney saw customers donate enough food to provide 5 big full trolleys of food to children suffering from life threatening diseases. Sainsbury's and Putney Momentum teamed up to hold the first ever food donation drive at the store, situated in Werter road. The collection, known as the 'Harvest Festival Collection', took place on Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th of november 2012.
On arriving in store customers were requested to select one additional item whilst doing their normal shopping; to pay for this at the cash desk and then to donate this item to Momentum. After just two days Sainsbury's Putney collected a staggering five large trolleys of items which included, sweets, toys, biscuits, crisps etc.
Momentum intends to use these donations in a number of ways: For stocking up the emergency cupboard for families at the local hospital; providing supplies for our two holiday homes; providing a picnic tea for our children on our Christmas bus trip to London to visit Winter Wonderland.
For Sainsbury's, corporate responsibility means many things. It is about providing our customers with the widest choice of quality food, at fair prices. But also about paying our suppliers a fair price and providing the reassurance of knowing that they have a buyer for their products on reasonable terms. It means enriching our communities through employment and career development opportunities, while growing our business profitably for our shareholders. And it means making the most effective use of our valuable resources like water and electricity, and respecting the local environment.
