Merton Council seems to have lost the understanding of what a Conservation Area is. Houses in Homefield Road have been granted permission to build 3 storey extensions, to get 20ft ground floor flat roof extensions - and the Creme de la Creme - a stand-alone studio apartment in a garden less than 80ft long! My life in my apartment now, and has been for the last year, consists of seeing builders, portaloos, skips, constant heavy machinary coming and going, muck, dust, dirt and incredible noise.
I remember having to move my satellite dish because it broke a skyline by 4 inches. This type of radical work is spoiling a beautiful area.
The extensive building works opposite - which as mentioned have been going for a year over 3 houses - didnt apparently require us opposite to be notified. We had no recourse to object even though now all the trees have been cleared, I can see straight into peoples bedrooms.
Can someone tell me if the regulations have changed?
I would also like to understand when the council will start refusing to let people turn their front gardens into car parks whilst still happily selling parking permits. 3 years ago I understand parking permit spaces were oversubscribed by over 400% - with the continual erosion of spaces, when will the council say no?
Life here has changed considerably. I have been a resident for 17 years and I am at my wits end! The council is behaving irresponsibly and needs to review how it is letting the area be destroyed by constant building.
Truly outrageous!
