Wimbledon's excellent start to the season continued over the bank holiday weekend
The boys in blue went top on Saturday thanks to a narrow 3-2 win at Eastbourne Borough, but they did it the hard way. They appeared to have the points wrapped up when Lee Minshull scored on 55 minutes to add to Danny Kedwell’s first half opener but Eastbourne battled back. Goals from Waetherstone (69) and Atkin (78) levelled things before Kedwell popped up in stoppage time with his second goal of the game to snatch victory from the jaws of stalemate.
Luton’s surprise defeat to Tamworth meant Wimbledon went into Monday’s home game against Newport County top of the heap.
Another Kedwell goal, this time from the penalty spot, and a Christian Jolley effort were enough to ensure a share of the spoils as the game ended 2-2. Wimbledon, Mansfield and Crawley Town currently occupy the top three places with 13 points apiece from six games.
