What do you really think?

For a couple of weeks of every year all anyone can talk about is Wimbledon, and to be honest I find it hard to like it.
I'm not a huge tennis fan and whilst I can enjoy a nailbiting match as much as the next person and I'm not averse to a good bowl of strawberries and cream I can't help wondering occasionally if Wimbledon would be a nicer place without the tennis.
Perhaps I'm just being a grumpy old man though. Perhaps the tennis is so integral to Wimbledon that it really wouldn't be the same without it. Perhaps not being able to find a parking space or even walk down a pavement for two weeks every year adds to the ambiance of the place. Perhaps the massive media frenzy that consumes every waking moment for the duration of the championship is a good thing.
But perhaps not. Maybe Wimbledon would simply be yet another leafy suburb without the tennis, another obscure town being swallowed up by London and losing its identity. Maybe the tennis is all that is keeping the big smoke at bay.
Though I shouldn't ignore the Wombles...
What do you think? Is the Tennis a good thing or not?
