Residents have until Wednesday 10th October to have their say on pay and display town centre parking, with three particular issues under review - sufficiency, location and cost.

A questionnaire about Morden, Colliers Wood, Mitcham, Raynes Park, Wimbledon Town Centres including Wimbledon Village is included. At a later date a second phase of the consultation will be launched regarding parking in local shopping parades throughout the borough.

Cabinet member for performance and implementation, Councillor Mark Betteridge said: "We want people to let us know what they think about parking in our town centres so that we can do all we can to improve our service and help residents and local businesses in these tough times."

Residents can take part in the survey by visiting www.merton.gov.uk/consultations

I think making parking cheaper would encourage trade in the area, the ability to nip in and out of shops for half an hour without the worry of being fined or clamped because you don't have a ticket or a permit.

Parking in Wimbledon is expensive, but I think fairly so. There's plenty of good transport links to the town centre, with other areas like the village, tennis and parks within walking distance or a short bus ride.

There is no need to encourage more traffic by lowering parking prices. However, it would be nice for residents on residential streets to be able to offer guests parking at a lower cost.
